What is "Shifting Sands" and "Culture Shapes Community?"
"Shifting Sands – Art, Culture and Neighborhood Change" is an initiative funded by the Ford Foundation and managed by Partners for Livable Communities. This initiative recognizes neighborhood based arts & cultural organizations as unique stakeholders in poor neighborhoods experiencing economic and demographic shifts. It is the primary component of "Culture Shapes Community," a phrase used to describe a broader movement of how arts and culture is a major force in shaping communities.
The Queens Museum of Art has been producing a series of public art events, exhibitions and performances that have activated the public space in Queens Corona Plaza.
My North Philly
is a Philadelphia Mural Arts project generously funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Community Partners in Arts Access (CPAA) initiative. CPAA-funded programs are working together to increase cultural programming and participation in North Philadelphia and Camden neighborhoods. The groups are involved in a wide range of arts and cultural activities, including mural and puppet making, dance, jazz music, ceramics, playwriting and painting.
